Knotweed! was developed by Naturedigger, LLC as an identification and educational tool for homeowners, property managers and the general public to identify knotweed in all stages and seasons.
Knotweed! offers identification assistance as well as manual control options for small infestations. It illustrates environmental and financial impacts and includes a basic management plan, benefits of knotweed and information about legal issues facing homeowners in the U.K.
Once an invasive species becomes an economic issue and reduces property values, it should be taken very seriously. Early detection, rapid response (EDRR) and on-site presence/monitoring is the best course in managing this species. If knotweed is identified early enough, there is a chance it can be eradicated in a single season, if not, it can take five to ten years of diligent management and monitoring to control or potentially eradicate.
This app does not cover chemical applications to control knotweed, since many countries are banning glyphosate, an herbicide often used as a control method. Naturedigger cannot recommend the use of glyphosate due to the World Health Organizations International Agency for Research on Cancers classification of glyphosate as "probably carcinogenic to humans."
